The Need
450-million kids in Sub Saharan Africa. Currently there is just one public children's hospital, in Cape Town, South Africa.
If you believe this is un-fair then you agree with Nelson Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Trust is working to change these odds, add another much-needed hospital...in J'burg, South Africa.
And so are we! Ground breaking to build East Africa's first public children's hospital was on December 31st 2012 in Eldoret Kenya. We are on the way to give Sub Saharan Africa its second public dedicated children's hospital. Please follow the updates on the facebook page-> [Link is here]<-

When kids die, One in seven before their 5th birthday, you ask Why? You look closer and see the majority of these kids are dying from treatable & preventable ailments. Kids have no access to a dedicated children's public hospital in East Africa...till now. The impact of this project is massive; hundreds upon thousands of children will have a better life. This is an exciting, innovative, and, I believe, the most likely solution to addressing right now the travesty of the high child mortality rates in East Africa. This an opportunity to be a part of 'doing the right thing for the right reason.'
WHAT WILL BE ACHIEVED BY THIS PROJECT?
Hundreds of thousands of kids will, for the first time, get access to a Kid's public teaching hospital. By building the infrastructure of good health in Africa one is giving the continent its best chance to reverse the trend of poverty. Hundreds of Africans will also get training, per year, that they will take to their district hospitals, their part of Africa, and bit by bit pediatric healthcare will have a stronger presence in Africa.
A healthy young population is a lesser burden on a growing country. By building a strong foundation of health we are creating a brighter future. It should be a global priority that every child has a right to public healthcare; the world can afford that right, surely.

How Can You Help?
We are in a good place; nearly all the funds needed for the construction stage have been raised! So now we start part two - the place needs equipping. We are looking for partners, equipment donors, individuals, big small donations... no amount is too small.
Vaccines, research... healthcare begins with a core. We are creating one. A landmark hospital; the very first ever in East Africa. I hope in 2013 you can be a part of this project.
