How to Donate

IMPORTANT UPDATE! As of July 2008 Our number one priority is to build the Children's hospital. Please help us by donating to this worthy cause. All money donations received from now will go directly towards building the hospital. Meanwhile we will continue to fund the below items. (Unless you specify that you want your donation to go to our shoe/scholarship/race programs below).

Pre July 2008: If you donate money to Shoe4Africa, 100% of that donation is used specifically toward funding:
School fees in Africa, supporting our running training camp in the Marakwet, Kenya, for shipping of shoes.  For our races where no one pays an entry fee, where every finisher gets a soda and bread, where every starter and 200 volunteers (at least) get a t-shirt, where the top twenty runners get prize money or merchandise (we have given away three laptops in the first five months of this year).  Your donation could also be used for shipping shoes to Africa, for transporting those shoes from the docks to the destination,  legal fees over in Africa.

Our ongoing projects are extremely expensive; your monies go directly to the above.  We are not a charity who pays ourselves first, then looks after the 'charity' -- we are true charity.  Since 1995 we are yet to receive a single grant (probably because we don't pay ourselves to write proposals!).

This is one reason that since 2008 we are now asking donors to send their shoes directly to Africa as the inflow was overwhelming, and the esculating costs of more and more storage units was an un-needed burdon.  Thanks for your support -- it is working.

Sending shoes to africa
Shoe4Africa is a charititable organization and needs the help of people like you! Until recently Shoe4Africa was able to take donated shoes and bear the cost of shipping them to Africa. The USPS changed its policy and rate structure on shipping and no longer allows shoes to be shipped to Africa via surface mail; Please note all shoe donations from America must be sent by Airmail. This has increased our costs above five fold making it temporarily impossible for us to send your shoes for yo u.

Currently, we are securing storage and researching new shipping options, and while we do so we encourage you to ship your donateable shoes directly to our representatives in Africa.

Shoe4Africa is a volunteer organization, no staff or offices. We put on large events in Africa, sponsor school children, have a schools rebuilding program, and send shoes to Africa. At present, with virtually no donations for any of the above, we are encouring the concept of asking people, if you buy a $100+ running shoe, then to spend about 8% of that (or less as what shoes cost $100?) and posting your own gently used pair to Africa.

Please only send gently used, as we are paying tax receiving many shoes, that when unpacked, are found to be no use for running. The shoe should be 'good' for at least another 100-miles of running, thanks so much.

Shoes can be sent via AIRMAIL (USPS is the best, most cost-effective method). Please send to the following address:

We are attempting to secure support from a shipping/courier or freight sponsor to continue and expand the program. In the meantime we are sending the stock of shoes we have on hand 'slowly' by airmail as funds permit. If you have any information or can help us in our search for affordable shipping please send us an email at: info@shoe4africa.org.

shoe drives
For The Kibera Project we are organizing mass shoe drives in several cities, please check back here for further information as well as when and where these drives will be held.

financial sponsorship
Shoe4Africa is an organization that now steps further than just handing out shoes. Our initiatives include training camps, athletic scholarships and sponsored races. Shoe4Africa has largely been operating without sponor funds with nearly all expenses being paid out of our own pocket and through donations.

To that end we are happy to accept both Individual and Corporate donations. For more information or to make a charitable contribution please click below or contact Shoe4Africa's director Toby Tanser at: Toby@shoe4africa.org.
