Network for Good?? Please choose Paypal!
When you donate a dollar to charity an oft asked question is 'How much of that dollar goes to the project?'
Let me tell you we suffer at Shoe4Africa, and when I look on guidestar.org to see salaries others get with charity work, in the same field as I, my eyes roll in wonderment. I have a friend who has a full time professional job, yet works for a not-for-profit as a side job and receives a six figure sum. And I don't advise any one to necessarily follow my route...
But what I do advise is choosing how to make the payment. A college kid kindly donated $20 in July to us, and if I was that college kid I would like to think of that $20 going to Africa... but what percentage is? Now he made that payment through a platform that uses a company called Network for Good and to make that transaction they charged him/me $2. That is ten per cent! Already ten percent of what he intended to go to Africa is gone in admin charges. Geez. At this point I want to thank PAYPAL - on the Shoe4Africa site we built a donate button that runs securely through paypal, so ONLY credit card charges are taken, I think 2.9%
Please check what platform you are making a donation through... if it looks super fancy it often is super-pricey too.
